LEGACY OF LOCAL NEWS
Freedom of the press is in the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution because the Founding Fathers knew democracy cannot survive without it.
We practice journalism. The Fourth Estate that provides checks and balances on the executive, legislative and judicial estates of government.
Journalism requires that we find more than one point of view on an issue, that we give you the context to understand the news and issues affecting your life and that we explain how it impacts you, where you live, in Northwest Arkansas.
We go out every day to gather the news and stories of this thriving region. A new Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette every day, 365 days a year. We report on news, sports, businesses, arts and entertainment and tell the stories of our region – the people who make it a special, dynamic place to live.
We attend a myriad of government meetings and report back to you the issues that impact your quality of life and your wallet.
We cannot continue this important task without your help. You can invest in the future of journalism in Northwest Arkansas – a little or a lot – by contributing to the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Community Journalism Project.
When a community loses its local newspaper, the area suffers a decline in civic engagement. Studies show that residents without local news are less likely to vote or contact local officials or run for office. Without a newspaper, a community becomes disconnected from information about its government, schools, local businesses, neighborhood events and more. A community without a newspaper also loses its historical record.
Thirty-six people a day are moving to Northwest Arkansas. Our business, civic and government leaders are struggling to maintain this area’s quality of life in the face of such rapid population growth.
Please help us to continue our important work at this critical time in our region’s history.
